The shadows she saw on the lawn inspired her to work for months on an approach that does not, however, paint the chosen object on canvas. This way, the chosen subject transforms into an image. This is especially true with living objects as well as those that are likely to perish for example, like fruits or even humans. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the photographs of her work survive. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of photographing and painting. This creates two-dimensional flattened photograph. Meade often incorporates models painted into the environment around them. It allows them to engage with the environment she has created. Thus, the boundary between painting and photography is removed.
